Year-over-year Canadian towable sales declined 25.8% in May and 22.2% for the first five months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).
Results by segment showed:
• Sales in the travel trailer sector fell 24.8% in May and 20% year-to-date.
• Canadian fifth-wheel sales tumbled 30% for the month and 29.4% through May.
• Folding camping trailer registrations dropped 22% in May on relatively low volume and showed a 25.7% decline year-to-date.
• Three park model RVs were sold in the Canadian marketplace during May.
Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towable sales leader through May with a 36.1% market share, ahead of Forest River Inc. which held a 34.9% share. Jayco Inc., which was acquired by Thor on July 1 for $576 million, garnered a 20.6% share.
Thor was the leader in travel trailer sales for the five months, posting a 35.8% market share, followed by Forest River (34.5%) and Jayco (21.7%). Thor was No. 1 in Canadian fifth-wheel sales, capturing a 45.2% market share, followed by Forest River (30.1%), Jayco (13.2%) and Grand Design RV Co. (8.1%).
Forest River led year-to-date Canadian folding camping trailer sales with a 67.1% market share while Jayco posted a 31.3% share.
