David Gray, a full-time RVer has created a user-friendly site, www.FifthWheelSt.com, for owners of fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers that “simplifies the task of weighing your truck and trailer.” In a press release in November 2011, Gray described a blowout experience that prompted him to create the site after finding it hard to locate online information about calculating the weight of is truck and trailer.
The site is said to provide an easy-to-use online calculator, printable worksheets and a safety report, based on a list of conventional towable vehicles and fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers.
“An overload combined with under- or over-inflated tires can cause a sudden blowout or breakdown,” Gray said in the release. “When towing a fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailer, it is very important to ensure that the load is distributed evenly and that all necessary safety precautions have been taken to prevent an RV accident.” Gray added that per RV Safety & Education Foundation (RVSEF) data, 51% of RVs on the road exceed one or more weight safety ratings.
