The most famous corner on all of Route 66 pulls millions of travelers off the road in Winslow. They stop to be part of musical history, reliving a moment from the iconic song “Take it Easy,” co-written by Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey. There they are, standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona. Such a fine sight to see.

One of Sedona’s most striking works of art isn’t found in a gallery. Completed in 1957, the Chapel of the Holy Cross rises between two pillars of sandstone, framed by high cliffs. The interior of the chapel is adorned with benches, tapestries, and flickering candles that create a meditative oasis, while soft sunlight streams through the floor-to-ceiling window. All are welcome.

About 20 miles northeast of Kingman, Giganticus Headicus, keeps a silent vigil along Route 66. The 14-foot tall green tiki head sits outside Antares Point Visitor Center, where you can purchase snacks and souvenirs. Giganticus Headicus is the work of artist Gregg Arnold who created it to honor the storied roadside attractions of Route 66.

Carved from a granite cliff overlooking the Colorado River, Yuma was America’s most notorious 19th century prison. Visitors can explore the granite cellblocks, walk among the sunbaked graveyard, climb into the guard tower, and feel the walls close in around them in the infamous “snake den” punishment cell.
